Feasibility Studies

Optika provides a range of services at the Feasibility stage of the project lifecycle.

It is not uncommon for a client to engage a consortium of engineering service providers to collectively deliver Feasibility Studies.  Whilst this approach might allow for specialisation on any specific area, it can create a disjointed and siloed view of the system.  It is not uncommon to hear of commissioning experiences where the system performance was less than the sum of its' parts.

Optika can provide a whole-of-system review of proposed development options.  This generally involves a discovery stage where a common assumption set is developed in consultation with each of the individual sub-system providers (e.g. mine, plant, rail, port etc.).  Optika focusses on those areas where sub-system interact, to ensure that the overall system performs as planned.  This cross funcitonal approach provides an important thread that provides project assurance when such a consortium approach is utilised.

Similarly, where a project proponent does not control all aspects of their supply chain and is dependent upon third party providers for critical services (e.g. rail and port operations), Optika can provide due diligence over the real available capacities and operating conditions that these third parties can offer.  Such an understanding of the entire supply chain across enterprise boundaries can be very useful when negotiating terms of use or supply chain service agreements.  These agreements form precedents that can be difficult to change and therefore lock-in a long term operating cost base.  Early focus here can provide significant savings over the life of the project.
